If you find yourself in Sitiawan, you absolutely must pay a visit to 卅参食堂 Grandma Canteen, a hidden gem that combines traditional Malaysian flavors with a cozy, modern ambiance. Nestled at NO.35 (TINGKAT BAWAH, 2, Jalan 5 Sitiawan Maju), this charming cafe exudes warmth and character, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for couples or small families looking to enjoy good food and good company.

At Grandma Canteen, expect a delightful range of local dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. Diners rave about the Siam Laksa, famed for its creamy, aromatic curry infused with a zesty hint of lime – a revelation that dances on your palate. If you prefer something lighter, the Hor Fun Soup offers a comforting twist, although it has received mixed reviews for its flavor. Adding to the thrill of the experience is their popular Kolo Mee, which has quickly garnered attention. Each dish is prepared with care, utilizing fresh ingredients that speak volumes about the chefs' dedication to quality.

The ambience is buzzingly vibrant yet cozy, reflecting the spirit of a classic kopitiam while offering a touch of modern flair. As you step inside, the charming decor instantly makes you feel at home. Although the space can fill up quickly, creating a lively atmosphere, many guests have noted the difficulty in finding a table during peak hours – a testament to its growing popularity! As noted by Jenny Lee, “Most of the foods were sold out when we arrived at 2pm on a weekday,” so be sure to arrive early to relish the full menu.

However, don’t let the crowd deter you. Customers like T describe their experience waiting in line as worth it, being rewarded with exceptionally flavorful dishes and a welcoming vibe. Keep in mind it's not just about the food; it’s also the joy of being part of a community hub where locals gather to share stories over steaming cups of Kopi and satisfying meals.

While there are a few minor downsides, such as a few pesky flies—as mentioned by Ryan—the overall experience at Grandma Canteen remains highly enjoyable. It's all part of the bustling charm that makes this cafe special. If you're craving authentic Malaysian cuisine in a warm, friendly setting, make your way to 卅参食堂 Grandma Canteen and discover why it’s becoming a beloved part of Sitiawan's food scene.

For those who have not seen the picture of the shop front of this eatery, it can be a little hard to spot. Look out for the round sign on the right side of the shop. Second shoplot. The atmosphere was nice. Most of the foods were sold out when we arrived at 2pm on a weekday. We enjoyed the kolo mee and the Kopi. It is a nice addition to Sitiawan's food scene.

The place were full of customers during our visit around 1pm. Waited around 10 minutes, ordered 1 Siam Laksa, 1 Hor Fun Soup, and nasi lemak with 2 drinks. The Siam Laksa was great with the hint of lime taste. The Hor Fun soup was not that good. Nasi lemak is so so. Ambience is great for couple and small families as not plenty of big tables, just some small tables.

Happen to visit here for a quick breakfast before heading to the Marina Jetty, my initial plan to a certain kopitiam failed as they closed on Wednesday haha Cosy environment but on the table that i'm heading to sit, there are quite a number of flies lurking around. Once I am seated, it is better but there is still some flies around my table. That will be my one and only thing I wish it can be solve. Plenty of selections from foods to drinks. Ordered their signature kolo mee (RM7.70), good amount of different ingredients which match well with each other as a whole. The surprise element would be the sambal which taste nice, fragrant and the right consistency. The grandpa cham ping (RM3.80), is not too bad as well, well balanced kopi and milk with just the right sweetness and kaoness. Lastly the kampung soft boiled eggs come with a timer of 8mins 30secs, just the right timing for a perfect soft boiled eggs. Recommended for sure and they do have special menu items for each different days as well. For payment method, is either Duitnow QR or Cash only, credit/debit card is not available.

A classic kopitiam taste with modern ambience. First time here on Sunday. Pretty crowd at 9am. Have to queue since the place is cute. No worries we waited around 10 minutes only. They have special menu served each day. On Sundays is Siam Laksa. Taste good. I love it. Laksa noodles with thick creamy curry. Personally i feel you guys need to squeeze the lime juice and give a good stir before sllrrping the laksa noodles. Croissant is very smooth and has a strong butter taste. Nasi lemak sambal was good. Complete with the condiments. Coffee was also nice. Basic kopitiam taste. One good thing, drinks are served late. I love to have the drinks hot. Most of the places, they serve drinks with food. Place was decorated beautifully. Clean and tidy. Just that weekends will be a bit busy. Staffs will not have time to attend everyone quickly. Placed will be cleaned very fast once customers are out. Overall a beautiful morning breakfast with good price. Will repeat here with family & friends.

Perhaps one of the best cafe in town in term of food taste. Their simple dried sauce mee and malay laksa has the authethic taste of the 60s perhaps from the recipe of their grandma. Not to mention their coffee which is grest too. Various types of toast are available too.
